Mrs. O'Connor
Welcome Landmark Knights,

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Mrs. O’Connor and I am honored to serve as your Assistant Principal for the 2016-2017 school year.

I am a Southern California girl; born in Compton California and raised in Rialto California.  I am a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles and California State University, Pomona.  I began my teaching career 13 years ago teaching at Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary school in Watts, California.  Teaching in inner city Los Angeles taught me many things, but above all it taught me resilience and the importance of building lasting relationships with students and their families.  Taking that experience with me, I relocated to Houston Texas where I successfully taught mathematics to struggling language learners, for more than 7 years.

In 2013, I moved back home to California, this move marked the beginning of my path towards a career in school leadership.  Last year I had the pleasure of successfully implementing a multi-tiered system of support for student behavior in 5 schools here in Moreno Valley Unified School District.  At each of these schools I was able to work with students, their families, teachers, principals, and all stakeholders to build a systematic approach towards positive student behavior and academic growth for each of the sites that I serviced.  This experience has been invaluable to my growth as an administrator and has made me even more passionate about my work in the field of education.  I too have a vested interest in the academic and socioemotional development of Moreno Valley’s Students.

I want the students of Landmark to love their school, to take pride in it, and to say with HONOR, I am a Landmark Knight!  I want Landmarks students to experience a meaningful exciting and fun school year, filled with learning that applies to their lives, in and out of school.  I want all of Landmarks students to love learning and to feel as I do, that education is the key that will unlock the door to a better future.

I know that the only way to achieve this goal is to ensure that we all share a common vision of student success, and to recalibrate that vision as needed.  My goal is to open the lines of communication between students, teachers, parents, families, administration, and the community as a whole.  My objective is to facilitate on-going dialogue that is meaningful and honest so that we can all work towards achieving our common goal, success and nothing less, for all Landmark Knights.

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I am the Assistant Administrator of Instructional Improvement and Academic Coaching (AAIIAC) here at Landmark Middle School. I am truly honored to be in this position, and I am looking forward to assisting the administrative team in making this a memorable and productive school year for staff and students. By working as a team, I know together we will do whatever it takes to advance the achievement of all students on our campus. I also know that we can make lasting progress and continue the amazing things I see happening here at Landmark Middle School. I have spent most of my professional career working with high school students and special populations. I am entering my 13th year in education starting out as instructional aide for four years in alternative education before coming to start my teaching career here in Moreno Valley Unified School District. For the past seven years I’ve predominantly taught 11th and 12th grade English and ELD 1-3  at the high school level. In addition to teaching, I was also involved in various leadership capacities with ELAC, AAPAC, WASC Technology Integration, Health Careers Academy and site academic coaching. After teaching for over seven years, I transitioned into a coaching role as a Professional Development Specialist for the district. In this role I supported all 6th-12th grade English teachers district-wide, provided coaching/professional development, and prepared district initiatives for implementation. In my role as the AAIIAC, some of my primary responsibilities include preparing and facilitating meaningful professional development, academic coaching, guided curricular implementation, and the continuation of building teacher capacity. My focus at Landmark Middle School is to continuously and consistently enhance instructional skill sets and best practices in order to assist teachers and prepare our students to be college and career ready. I am excited to work alongside such amazing staff to reach these goals! My door is always open and I am here to support students and staff in any way that I can. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
