Counseling/Guidance Staff


The Counselors are looking forward to an OUTSTANDING 2016-17 school year.  We have so much planned.  From our Mix It Up Activities at lunch to Classroom Guidance Lessons on College and Career and exploring Growth Mindset to our School Wide Awareness Weeks to delivering fresh hot donuts to classes with Perfect Attendance.  Let’s make it a great year KNIGHTS!

Mrs. Fernandes, 6th Grade Counselor, Lead

Mrs. Fernandes is a Moreno Valley Unified School District alumni.  She earned her BA in Liberal Studies, MS in Counseling and Guidance and her Pupil Personnel Services Credential from California State University, San Bernardino.  She is honored to be back to serve and support students.  She is currently the Lead Counselor and serves 6th grade students.   Mrs.  Fernandes is also the co-coordinator for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports at Landmark.  Mrs.  Fernandes is an avid supporter of student achievement, positive school climate and parent involvement and finds Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports at the core of each of those components. 


Mr.  Hayes, 8th Grade Counselor

Mr.  Hayes, serves as the 8th grade Counselor, is a product of MVUSD. After graduating from Moreno Valley High School, he went to Idaho State, where he played football and received a bachelor’s degree in CIS.  He found his calling though in Education and now has worked for MVUSD for over 10 years as a Substitute Teacher, Coach, Special Education Teacher and Counselor. In addition, he is a proud Christian, father, and husband and a true believer that “Intelligence plus character--that is the goal of true education.”  Dr. MLK Jr.

Mrs.  Hixson, 7th Grade Counselor

Mrs.  Hixson serves as the 7th grade Counselor.  Mrs. Hixson graduated from Cal Baptist University with a Master’s in Education and PPS Credential. She currently serves the 7th grade students. The beginning of the school year she was blessed with her second baby girl. She is a proud mother and coach’s wife. Her passion is to empower young men and women to be the best they can be. She strongly believes every student has the ability to succeed.
